Body’s 3 hero ingredients

Turmeric, Moringa and Reishi mushrooms: the three plant-based superfoods to take daily for better health.

There are an incredible 15 whole plants and plant extracts in Body, each one carefully selected to enhance your diet. Here’s a deep dive into three ingredients we think are pretty fantastic.

TURMERIC

Turmeric is a member of the ginger family, originates in Southeast Asia and has been used in traditional Eastern medicine for generations. Curcumin, an active compound within turmeric, is responsible for the spices’ health benefits as well as its distinctive yellow colour. Studies have shown that curcumin is a powerful anti-inflammatory, capable of reducing the chronic low-grade inflammation linked with chronic disease. Western diets are becoming increasingly more inflammatory, with inflammatory-related diseases such as cancers, heart disease and Alzheimer’s now accounting for 3 out of 5 deaths worldwide. Curcumin is present in very low quantities in turmeric, and while it has been shown to have benefits at these quantities when regularly consumed, studies show that higher doses of curcumin are far more effective. You’ll find a potent 95% curcumin extract in Body, along with black pepper to further optimise bioavailability, harnessing the best that this spice has to offer.

MORINGA

The Moringa tree, native to Southern Asia and Africa, also coined itself a name, often known as “the miracle tree”. This incredible tree grows like wildfire once planted and provides an incredible source of nourishment for many populations.

The leaves of the Moringa tree are one of the most nutritionally dense food sources on earth, containing over 90 nutrients. The leaves have about four times more iron, calcium and vitamin A than spinach, milk and carrots respectively. Moringa has one of the highest antioxidant capacities of any plant, making it a powerhouse at combating oxidative stress. Oxidative stress occurs due to an imbalance of free radicals in the body, and unfortunately, many factors of modern-day lifestyles, including pollution, ultra-processed foods and pesticides are increasing our free-radical exposure. This isn’t a plant we find in our diets in Western countries, but it absolutely deserves to be, and that’s why you’ll find it in Body.

REISHI MUSHROOM

Originating in Eastern Asia, the Reishi mushroom has been revered in traditional Eastern medicine for thousands of years but can be found growing all over the world. It has been referred to in different cultures as “the mushroom of immortality” and “divine fungi''. Reishi mushrooms are rich in beta-glucans, a soluble fibre that helps regulate cholesterol levels and potentially lower the risk of heart disease. They support immune regulation and liver function and hold anti-cancer properties. They have powerful adaptogenic effects, balancing hormone levels and enabling the body to cope with stress by regulating cortisol. It’s easy to see why the Reishi has earned such notoriety in so many cultures, and why it's featured in Body.
